The
Great Wall of China is something you must put on your
agenda when you visit China. The Great Wall is the
world's longest human-made structure; it stetches
over 4,000 miles long. Not only is the Great Wall
of China the longest structure ever made by human
hands, but it is also largest structure when talking
about mass and surface area.
The Great Wall of China is actually a series of fortifications across the northern part of China that was originally built around the 5th century BC to protect China from the Mongolians. This first Great Wall was much further north than the Great Wall that we see today. There's very little left of this original Great Wall of China.
The Great Wall of China we see today was built during the Ming Dynasty. The Great Wall stretches from the Shanhai Pass in eastern China all the way to Lop Nur located in western China. The wall runs across the southern end of Inner Mongolia. Portions of the existing Great Wall are run down or even missing. Even with the natural ... and un-natural deterioration of the Great Wall of China, it's still very, very impressive. The Great Wall of China should be a must-see on your trip to China.
So which part should you visit. Well, if you want to see a more natural part of the Great Wall, then you'll want to go to Simatai. This part of the Great Wall of China is fairly non-developed. Other areas of the Great Wall are much more popular tourist attractions. If this is your first trip to China, then you'll want to arrange a tour of China that includes the Great Wall, and you'll be sure to see the best parts.
